Simple Tricks to Paying Less For Air Conditioning

Even in tough economic times, there are certain luxuries in life for which consumers are still willing to pay. One of these luxuries is air conditioning. Unlike heating costs, the extra energy costs associated with running air conditioners are completely optional. In fact, some people do not even have air conditioning in their homes at all! However, for those who do, it is extremely difficult not to turn it on when the temperatures become hot and the humidity is high. These muggy conditions can make life miserable, and most people are very willing to pay in order to escape them. Still, nearly everyone wants to know how to save on energy costs, even if they are willing to pay for these luxuries. There are some very simple and cost effective tips that you can follow to lower your cooling costs and enjoy the benefits of a central cooling system without paying exorbitant prices for it.

One easy trick is to install ceiling fans. Comparatively, ceiling fans use a lot less energy than Air Conditioning units do, and they help to keep a room or home cool by circulating the cool air downwards, and by generally promoting airflow throughout the home. This means that the cooling system does not work as hard, or use as much energy, as it would have to otherwise. The movement of air, whether warm or cool, adds to the cooling effect of the air, making the home more comfortable at a higher temperature. Ceiling fans are often inexpensive to buy, and can be installed by most do-it-yourself handy men or women.

Another relatively simple and inexpensive trick is to use a programmable thermostat. They have a very low cost, sometimes as low as twenty dollars, which are savings that are almost certain to be recovered in the first month of use. Using a programmable thermostat allows you to target the times of day where the house should be coolest. This means that for the other times of day, the temperature can be set higher, therefore saving energy and lowering air conditioning costs. Night time and working hours generally do not need to be kept as cold as afternoon and evening times do.

By following just these two energy efficiency tips, you can expect to see savings on your monthly air conditioning bills. This makes it much easier to keep up the luxury in your home, and it is also good for the environment if you use less energy to run these systems

  1. Programmable thermostat is the best way to save money on air conditioning. Moving to an inverter based air conditioning system will also lower energy bills.
